- Western Isles Wildlife
Frank’s interest in wildlife began from an early age as he roamed the woods and farmlands surrounding his childhood village in East Calder.
Hating begin cooped up inside, he recalls how he spent his childhood discovering the wonders of the natural world:
Water was a particular attraction and often while other boys idled away their time in the village I would be miles away following the course of the local rivers - this is where the hunter gatherer in me emerged, and I soon became an expert at guddling brown Trout, catching them with my hands.
While on these expeditions I would lie in the sun and watch the trout rise to the surface and catch flies and other insects floating by. Grey wagtails and Dippers raised their families in nests built on ledges on the steep river banks among dog violets and primroses, and Badgers shuffled about in the grey dark dusk as I made my way home. For some reason I noticed all
these things and that is how I fi rst got interested in wildlife.
Ideally I love being out in the middle of nowhere, with my dog Seonaidh, pitting my wits against a Red Deer Stag- only rather than shooting to kill it, I simply take some photographs.

As well as creating this new web outlet, Frank has also been busy compiling and editing a selection of his articles and hopes to have a book published soon.
